Special Air Traffic Procedures – January 20-23, 2011 – Sebring Regional Airport, Florida

In anticipation of the large number of aircraft operating to and from the Sebring area in conjunction with the US Sport Aviation Expo, the following procedures will be used to enhance safety and minimize air traffic delays.

Prior to 9:00 AM and after 5:00 PM the airport will operate as a “Non-Towered airport”. Special arrival procedures will be announced by NOTAM. Pilots should exercise caution.

A temporary FAA operated tower will be operational from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM on January 20, 21 and 22 and from 9:00 AM until Noon on January 23. Tower frequency will be announced by NOTAM. Pilots must treat this as a fully functional airport with an operating control tower.

Frequent Expo demonstration flights will be conducted throughout the day. From 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM this traffic will also be controlled by the tower.

Arrival Procedures

Note: This information is for planning purposes only. Pilots should consult NOTAMs that will be published prior to the event!!
KSEF traffic will be controlled by an FAA tower during the period 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM each day (9:00 AM – noon on January 23).

Prior to 9:00 AM:
VFR arrivals prior to 9:00 AM should over-fly Lake Jackson in downtown Sebring at 1,000 ft MSL. Depart the southern-most shore on a 110 degree heading then fly over the center of the Sebring International Raceway, then over the large Terminal building, then over Sebring Regional airport Midfield, to enter a left downwind to RWY 18 or right downwind to RWY 36, depending on runway in use.

From 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM:
VFR arrivals after 9:00 AM, when the FAA Control Tower will be in operation, should over-fly

Lake Jackson abeam downtown Sebring, then depart the southern-most shore from over Little Lake Jackson (small cove) on a 110 degree heading. When departing Lake Jackson, contact Sebring Tower on frequency 118.55 MHz. Enter a left downwind to Runway 18 or a right downwind to Runway 36 (depending on the runway in use). Stay in single file maintaining a half-mile spacing with the aircraft ahead from the time you depart Lake Jackson on the 110 heading until landing.

All aircraft should maintain 90 knots at 1,100 feet MSL when approaching Lake Jackson. Aircraft unable to safely fly this slow should maintain 150 knots at 1,600 MSL. Advise SEF ACTC if your maximum airspeed is less that 90 knots.

Lake Jackson VFR Holding Procedures:
If VFR holding procedures become necessary, pilots will be instructed to enter a VFR holding pattern over Lake Jackson, using left turns. Aircraft at 1,100 feet MSL, maintain 90 knots or maximum airspeed if less than 90 knots, 1,600 feet MSL at 150 knots. All twin-engine aircraft maintain 2,100 feet regardless of speed. SEF ACTC will provide instructions to exit holding.

Landing:
Taxiway Alpha north of Taxiway a3 will be redesignated Runway 17/35 for the event. Runway 17/35 will be used only by aircraft landing/departing the Expo pattern. USE EXTREME CAUTION when turning base to final, distance between centerlines of Runway 18/36 and 17/35 is 400 feet.

After Touchdown:
After touchdown follow the directions issued by the tower controller even though you may desire parking on the west ramp. Additional areas have been designated for temporary parking.

VFR Departure Procedures:

Prior to taxi, monitor the AWOS on 119.475. Proceed to the designated spot. At that spot, contact Ground control on 121.35 MHz for taxi instructions. Advise the ground controller that you have current SEF weather, your spot and direction of flight. Follow the ground controller’s instructions for taxiing to the active runway (read back all hold short instructions) When number one for departure, contact SEF ACTC on 118.25 MHz and advise that you are ready for departure.

After departure, proceed straight out for three (3) miles before proceeding on course. AVOID LAKE JACKSON and the SUA north to southeast of SEF.

AVON PARK AIRFORCE RANGE: Pilots must be aware of MOA’s and restricted areas associated with the Bombing Range. These areas are to the north and east of SEF.

Car Rentals

Both Enterprise rent-a-car and Hertz operate in Sebring.

Expo Aircraft Demonstration Operations:

Prior to conducting any demonstration flights, Expo demonstration aircraft pilots must attend a briefing conducted jointly by the Expo Air Operations and the FAA. Time and locations to be announced. All demonstration aircraft must be covered by appropriate liability insurance and have the necessary aircraft documents.
Prior to 9:00 AM and after 5:00 PM daily Expo aircraft operations will be conducted on that section of RWY 14-32 that is northwest of the intersection with Taxiway A, under the control of Expo Air Operations.

From 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM (noon on Sunday) daily Expo aircraft operations will be conducted under the control of the FAA Control Tower. Special Expo flight patterns will be published.
